BBC Player to launch on Movistar Plus+ in Spain on 15 October

October 20, 2025 10.22 Europe/London By Julian Clover

BBC Studios will roll out BBC Player on Movistar Plus+ from 15 October, adding a curated on-demand catalogue of up to 700 hours for IPTV subscribers.

The expanded agreement also brings FAST channels BBC Lifestyle and BBC Earth to the platform, alongside existing BBC Studios FAST brands Top Gear, BBC Drama, BBC History and BBC Food. Movistar Plus+ will handle ad sales for the BBC services, including on-demand inventory in BBC Player.

Programmes at launch include Louis Theroux documentaries, natural history titles fronted by Sir David Attenborough, entertainment formats such as The Weakest Link, lifestyle series Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby and crime drama Father Brown. First-window rights in Spain are promised for the “Paradise” franchise (Death in Paradise, Beyond Paradise, Return to Paradise).

Spanish audiences have shown a clear enthusiasm for premium British programming and the launch of BBC Player, BBC Lifestyle and BBC Earth on Movistar Plus+ enables us to meet that demand even more,” said Arran Tindall, Chief Commercial Officer, EVP – EMEA Key Markets, BBC Studios.

Spain becomes the latest market for the BBC Studios on-demand brand, which is already live with partners in Singapore (StarHub, Singtel CAST), Malaysia (Astro, unifi TV), India (Prime Video Channels), Poland (Canal+ and CDA Premium), Taiwan (Taiwan Mobile’s myVideo) and, since late 2024, Greece (Cosmote TV), Czech Republic (T-Mobile Magenta TV) and Slovakia (Slovak Telekom Magio TV).

BBC Studios’ Spanish expansion follows a broader multi-year renewal with Telefónica’s pay-TV service, under which Movistar Plus+ deepens its BBC portfolio across VOD, FAST and premium factual acquisitions.
