Swiss public broadcaster SRG has revealed the name of its new streaming service: Play+ will unite all video and audio content from its regional affiliates RSI, RTR, RTS and SRF, as well as Play Suisse, on a single national platform.
Play+ is set to launch in autumn 2026, offering audiences across Switzerland a central digital home for public-service content – live, time-shifted and on demand.
The “plus” in Play+ symbolises what SRG describes as “more content, more Switzerland, more public service”. The initiative is part of “Enavant SRG SSR”, the broadcaster’s digital transformation programme aimed at making SRG more agile, efficient and audience-focused while maintaining high standards of public service.
“To remain relevant in the digital world, we must be part of people’s everyday lives in Switzerland, understand their needs and offer an attractive, easily accessible service,” said Susanne Wille, Director-General of SRG. “Play+ will be the new digital home for our audience. It will connect people through strong content from all regions of Switzerland, bringing together innovation, diversity, trust and quality programming from RSI, RTR, RTS and SRF – all on one platform.”
Currently, Play Suisse serves as SRG’s national streaming service for Swiss films, series and documentaries, while each regional broadcaster operates its own platform – such as Play SRF, Play RTS, Play RSI and Play RTR – offering audio and video content in their respective languages.
Play+ will merge these services into a user-centred, multilingual platform, replacing the existing players and Play Suisse. Viewers will be able to access all genres – from news, sports and documentaries to culture, fiction, business and entertainment – whether live, time-shifted or on demand.
To encourage cross-regional discovery, content with national relevance will feature subtitles or dubbing in multiple languages. The platform will also offer personalised recommendations, a unified search across all SRG content, and seamless navigation between languages and formats.
The name and visual identity of Play+ were unveiled alongside a new logo featuring a Swiss cross and a plus sign, symbolising both the platform’s national character and its promise of added value.
“The name Play+ creates a clear link to our existing platforms while expressing our ambition for innovation and an expanded user experience,” explained Damien Corti, Project Manager for Play+. “It marks a turning point away from a fragmented offer towards a shared national approach.”
Development of the platform is being carried out collaboratively by teams from all four SRG language units and Play Suisse. The next phase involves further technical development, followed by the migration of existing systems and content by summer 2026.
Extensive testing – including a user panel to optimise the experience – will precede the official launch in autumn 2026.
