Sunrise introduces AI-powered ‘SuperSearch’ for TV content discovery

October 13, 2025 12.07 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Swiss telco Sunrise has launched an AI-based voice search function for its TV platform, becoming the first TV provider in Switzerland to offer such a feature.

Called SuperSearch, the new tool allows users to find films, series and other programmes across multiple platforms with natural voice commands such as “Show me films featuring Brad Pitt”. Instead of scrolling through programme guides or navigating between apps, viewers can now use conversational search to locate content spanning live and replay TV, on-demand catalogues and major streaming services including Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and Sky.

The system is powered by Google’s Gemini Flash large language model, enabling it to understand complex, context-driven requests and return results tailored to each viewer’s preferences. According to Sunrise, the feature represents a major leap from traditional keyword-based searches, providing a more intuitive and personalised way to explore entertainment content.

“With SuperSearch, we’re setting new standards for media content discovery,” said Christoph Richartz, Chief Consumer Officer Main Brand at Sunrise. “We’re showing how artificial intelligence can simplify an increasingly complex environment. SuperSearch finds your favourite shows quickly, precisely and across all platforms – something only available with Sunrise TV.”

SuperSearch builds on Sunrise’s earlier introduction of TV Highlights, a feature that delivers personalised video clips to mobile devices via the Sunrise TV app.

Using natural voice commands such as “I’d like to learn something about space” or “Show me Oscar-winning films”, customers can receive fast, visually presented results that aggregate content from various sources. The tool supports German, French, Italian and English, and is now available to Sunrise customers with a Sunrise TV Box.
