TG4 has secured a €5.4 million uplift in its 2026 exchequer grant following Tuesday’s Budget, a 9% increase that brings the Irish-language broadcaster’s total state funding next year to €65.4 million.
The Department of Culture, Communications and Sport said the additional money will support more Irish-language originals, children’s programming and expanded news services. It is the broadcaster’s second-largest recent rise after the €7.3 million allocation in Budget 2023 that underpinned the launch of children’s channel Cúla4.
Director-General Deirdre Ní Choistín welcomed the decision, highlighting ministerial backing for TG4’s newsroom expansion and the independent production sector. TG4 says audience share to date in 2025 stands at 2.3%, and it aims to grow engagement across platforms through 2026 as the service approaches its 30th anniversary.
