NBCUniversal and YouTube TV reach multi-year carriage deal, Peacock integration included

October 3, 2025 11.13 Europe/London By Julian Clover

NBCUniversal and Google have avoided a blackout on YouTube TV after striking a multi-year carriage agreement covering the broadcaster’s full network portfolio and extending to its Peacock streaming service.

Talks had become strained in late September when the previous contract expired, prompting NBCU to warn subscribers that its channels could be pulled from the vMVPD. At issue were both carriage fees and the treatment of streaming rights, with NBCU pressing Google to give greater prominence to Peacock. Google had resisted what it described as demands that would “set new precedents” on integration, arguing that its platform should retain control over user experience and data.

A short-term extension kept NBCU’s networks online while negotiations continued. The new deal secures continued distribution of NBC, Telemundo, Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC, USA, Syfy, Oxygen True Crime, E!, Golf Channel and Universo on YouTube TV. Later this year, the relaunched NBC Sports Network will also be carried.

As part of the arrangement, Peacock will be made available as a subscription through YouTube’s Primetime Channels, expanding the streamer’s reach across Google’s platforms, including Google TV. NBCUniversal will also continue to distribute short-form clips, highlights and library content through YouTube, while Universal Pictures films remain available to buy or rent.

The row highlighted the growing friction between programmers and distributors over “ingestion” – the extent to which streaming services like Peacock should be folded directly into third-party platforms rather than accessed as standalone apps. The compromise suggests both sides recognised the risk of a prolonged blackout as the NFL season and new primetime shows gathered momentum.

Industry observers note the deal could act as a template for future carriage negotiations, particularly as programmers and platforms balance affiliate fees with direct-to-consumer streaming ambitions.
