
SES has announced the launch of ASTRA TV, its new satellite platform offering for the Spanish TV market.
Available from the 19.2 degrees East orbital position, ASTRA TV offers a lineup of 21 HD and 1 UHD linear TV channels in Spain across news entertainment, sports. In addition to the public broadcaster’s Ultra HD offer La 1 UHD, Antena 3, Telecinco, and La 2 are also expected to add new UHD channels later.
The basic installation, if necessary, costs up to €145 (VAT included) and includes satellite dish and 5 meters of cable and the CAM card to decode the channels. The first year is completely free and the second is €72/year.
SES says it specifically designed ASTRA TV to address a market need in Spain for traditional linear TV customers that live in rural areas with poor terrestrial coverage or internet access. It is also a cost-effective option for people looking for TV service in second homes, or for hotels or mobile caravans located in rural or coastal areas.
