Comcast has appointed Michael Cavanagh as co-chief executive, effective January.
Cavanagh, who has been with the company since 2015 when he joined as chief financial officer, will share the role with Brian Roberts, who continues as chairman and co-CEO.
Currently serving as Comcast’s president, Cavanagh previously spent six years as CFO of JPMorgan Chase.
The move is broadly viewed as a signal of succession planning at Comcast. Roberts, who has led the company for decades, said he is “thrilled” to continue working with Cavanagh in the years ahead.
The timing comes as Comcast juggles challenges and strategic pivots. The company is preparing to spin off a portfolio of its cable networks (such as MSNBC, CNBC, USA, and E!), while retaining core assets like NBC and Bravo.
