Comcast and CommScope extend DOCSIS 4.0 amplifier deployment across all markets

September 29, 2025 12.30 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Comcast and CommScope have confirmed that Full Duplex DOCSIS (FDX) 4.0 amplifiers are now live across Comcast’s entire footprint, with multigigabit symmetrical speeds available to millions of homes over existing connections.

The announcement comes a year after the companies revealed initial deployments. The amplifiers form part of Comcast’s wider DOCSIS 4.0 upgrade programme, which is designed to boost capacity and reliability while preparing the operator’s access network for 10G services.

“DOCSIS 4.0 FDX operation brings significant value to our subscribers with symmetrical multigigabit speeds and game-changing network reliability capabilities,” said Dan Rice, Vice President, Access Network Engineering, Comcast. “With these enhancements, we’re able to provide DOCSIS 4.0-powered multi-gig symmetrical Internet services, with AI optimizing customer experience and automating network operations.”

The FDX upgrades deliver symmetrical multi-gigabit speeds across multiple CPE devices and support higher upstream capacity. Comcast says its AI-driven management core can detect and correct network events in real time, improving performance and reliability.

On the vendor side, CommScope developed its STARLINE FDX amplifier solution specifically for Comcast. “We’ve worked very closely with the Comcast team to meet their technical and business goals, while ensuring that the amplifiers integrate seamlessly into existing architectures,” said Guy Sucharczuk, SVP & president, Access Network Solutions, CommScope.

CommScope, which has shipped nearly 10 million amplifiers since DOCSIS 1.0, plans to expand its portfolio with DOCSIS 4.0 Unified devices, combining support for both Extended Spectrum DOCSIS (ESD) and FDX networks. The company positions itself as the only provider with a full DOCSIS 4.0 ecosystem, spanning nodes, DAA modules, amplifiers and virtual CCAP.

CommScope is showcasing its DOCSIS 4.0 solutions, including Remote PHY Devices (RPDs) and Smart Amplifiers, at SCTE TechExpo 2025 in Washington, DC this week.
