Disney+ is increasing the monthly subscription fee on the streaming service by 20%.
From October 21, the standalone ‘with ads’ plans for US subscribers will increase by $2 to $11.99/month. The ad free Disney+ Premium plan will increase by $3 to $18.99 per month, while Disney+ Premium annual plan rises $30 to $189.99 per year.
It’s anticipated that similar rises will be introduced in Disney’s international markets, though to date there has been no official confirmation.
There are also price increases for Disney’s Hulu and ESPN packages available in the United States.
The timing for the increases is unfortunate, given a threatened viewer boycott of Disney and its ABC network by households angered over the suspension of talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. The nightly Jimmy Kimmel Live was taken off air following comments made in wake of the death of right-wing activist Chalie Kirk.
