RDK deployed by Vodafone as Centralised Software Platform for Fibre and DOCSIS in UK and Germany

September 11, 2025 09.33 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Vodafone Group has chosen RDK-B as its platform of choice as it looks to standardise home broadband device software and service offering across UK, Germany, and its European footprint.

The announcement was made by RDK in advance of the annual RDK Global Summit.

Vodafone has deployed RDK-B as its central software for the latest generation of Wi-Fi 7 Fibre and DOCSIS CPEs, the Ultra Hub 7 routers. These new routers have been now deployed commercially in the UK and in Germany. Vodafone also continues to expand its use of RDK-B open-source software in phased rollouts across Europe and as part of its broader portfolio of CPEs.

Vodafone’s new Pro 3 package in the UK includes the all-new Ultra Hub 7 router, which is built for full-fibre and powered by Wi-Fi 7 to provide an enhanced online experience for work, streaming and gaming. Vodafone’s Super Wi-Fi 7 Booster comes as standard with Pro 3, with up to three additional Wi-Fi Mesh boosters available for comprehensive home coverage at no extra cost. Pro 3 customers are also seamlessly switched over to Vodafone’s 4G network if they experience a broadband outage in their area.

“Success relies on the right technical choices, and for our next-generation broadband devices, that begins with RDK,” Oscar Gallego, Director of Home Technology & Products at Vodafone Group. “Ultra Hub 7 unquestionably enables the most advanced broadband experience we’ve created to date, simultaneously delivering ultra-performance and unmatched value to our customers. RDK provides the underlying software foundation that enables us to scale and deploy our latest innovations and services to our customers throughout Europe.”

RDK is an open-source software platform, shipped on more than 200 million devices to date, that standardizes core functions used in broadband and video devices. For broadband specifically, RDK-B provides core functionalities including device management, telemetry, Wi-Fi services, Ethernet access, IPv6 transitioning and more that work across all major network access technologies such as DOCSIS, GPON, DSL, and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA).

“Vodafone is clearly at the cutting-edge of broadband deployments with the new Ultra Hub 7 live in UK and Germany, and we’re quite proud it runs atop of RDK,” said Jason Briggs, President and General Manager of RDK. “RDK-B is an open, agile, and proven broadband software stack built for scale, especially for service providers who rely upon a combination of broadband access technologies, such as fibre and fixed wireless, to support their customers across the globe. Vodafone is a true pioneer within the RDK community, and we’re very thankful for their contributions and technical leadership.”

Vodafone’s Oscar Gallego will discuss the company’s adoption of RDK during the 2025 RDK Global Summit on September 16 in Amsterdam, immediately after the conclusion of IBC2025.
