Disney inks Spanish partnership with Atresmedia

September 8, 2025 11.18 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Mar afuera will be seen on atresplayer and Disney+

Disney+ and Atresmedia have announced a landmark deal that will bring additional Spanish language content to the streaming service.

Subscribers in Spain will be able to enjoy more that 300 hours of Atresmedia content each year as part of their subscription.

It’s the latest such agreement between Disney+ and a national broadcaster in Europe following separate deals with Germany’s ZDF and ITV in the UK.

For the first time ever, Atresmedia is making some of its SVOD original series available on Disney+ day and date to its own SVOD service.

Successful entertainment shows such as The Voice will be available on Disney+ one day after broadcast on Atresmedia’s FTA linear channel. While some long running novelas will be available on Disney+ either next day, or within one month of airing on Atresmedia’s FTA linear channel.

For Atresmedia, this agreement represents another step forward in consolidating atresplayer as the leading Spanish platform, further strengthening its strategy to distribute the best Spanish productions both nationally and internationally. atresplayer have its own distinct space on Disney+ and feature more than 300 hours per year of their content produced in Spain, which will be regularly updated.

Karl Holmes, general manager for Disney+, EMEA said: “Atresmedia consistently delivers popular, must-watch Spanish content including some of the country’s finest original productions. Adding hundreds of hours of Atresmedia shows to stream on Disney+ is great news for our customers in Spain. He added that the deal also reflects our broader commitment to supporting local broadcasters across Europe.

Javier Bardají, CEO of Atresmedia added: “This pioneering and unprecedented agreement with Disney+, one of the largest international streaming platforms, consolidates the leadership of Atresmedia and atresplayer, reaffirming the success of their innovative content strategy. It allows us to expand the reach of our productions, promoting Spanish talent and culture.”

From September, Disney+ will feature atresplayer originals like Mar afuera (premiering September 14), hit shows such as La Voz and Tu cara me suena, and popular Antena

3 series including La Encrucijada and Sueños de libertad. Classics like Vis a Vis, Física o Química , and Aquí no hay quien viva will also be available.
