Edge video delivery network MainStreaming has announced a partnership with BT to deliver high-performance, scalable, and efficient video streaming across BT’s mobile and fixed networks across the UK.
The partnership involves integrating MainStreaming’s services into BT’s network using on-net capabilities, aiming to increase delivery capacity for large streaming platforms. The collaboration is intended to improve quality of experience (QoE) and reliability for live streaming audiences, enhance cost efficiency for network providers through edge caching, and offer content providers a capacity-based cost model.
Tassilo Raesig, CEO of MainStreaming, said that working with BT aligns with both companies’ commercial and technical goals for supporting UK broadcasters. He also referenced leveraging BT’s infrastructure to support streaming platforms and emphasized the importance of the UK market for MainStreaming.
As part of the technical plans, the collaboration will assess BT’s Multicast-Assisted Unicast Delivery (MAUD) technology for live streaming and explore software-defined edge caching solutions to address changing needs of content providers and consumers.
Chris Bramley, Chief Network Architect at BT, said enhancing network capabilities is a priority to ensure optimal streaming experiences. He added that incorporating MainStreaming’s Content Delivery Network aims to improve efficiency in video content delivery and viewing experiences for customers.
