In Ghana, the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations has begun imposing a GHC 10,000 daily fine on MultiChoice Ghana (DSTV) from August 15, 2025, for failing to provide pricing data requested under the Electronic Communications Act (ECA).
The Ministry had earlier warned that if no price reduction was achieved by September 6, 2025, DSTV’s operating license could be suspended.
Minister Samuel Nartey George said the data request — covering bouquet prices, tax breakdowns, and regional comparisons — was essential to evaluating subscription fees and exploring possible reductions.
He stressed the fines are a legal requirement separate from ongoing talks, warning that the government could freeze accounts to protect consumers.
Once the information is provided, the Ministry will conduct an objective review: if taxes are proven to drive high costs, he pledged to push for tax reforms; if not, DSTV will be required to cut prices.
