The US District Court for the Central District of California has awarded $15 million in damages for copyright infringement against the streaming service Outer Limits IPTV and its operator Zachary DeBarr.
The ruling by Judge Josephine Staton includes a permanent injunction leading to the shutdown of piracy-related websites associated with Outer Limits IPTV, antipiracy coalition Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) confirmed Thursday.
Karyn Temple, Senior Executive Vice President and Global General Counsel for the Motion Picture Association said: “The court’s ruling against the operator of a digital piracy service is a development in ongoing efforts to address global piracy,” said Karyn Temple. “We acknowledge the $15 million damages award and the court’s order prohibiting further unauthorized streaming of films and TV series.”
Outer Limits IPTV unlawfully provided subscribers with access to more than 13,000 movie titles, over 3,000 television series, and upwards of 4,000 live channels, including international programming and live sports events. DeBarr, a repeat offender with a long history of piracy, frequently promoted Outer Limits and other illicit services through his YouTube channel.
