Bitmovin has announced the release of Bitmovin React Native SDK v1.0 for the Bitmovin Player.
The update introduces support for Expo SDK and React Native New Architecture, allowing developers to build native video applications more efficiently while improving performance and reducing development time.
Developers using Expo to create React Native applications now have access to enhanced rendering, responsiveness, and integration options across Android, Android TV, iOS, and tvOS. The addition of an Expo configuration plugin replaces manual setup steps with a single configuration process, streamlining project initialization and helping minimise errors.
The release also updates the debugging process, enabling direct debugging in React Native DevTools via Chrome. This feature is intended to help developers identify and resolve playback or integration issues more quickly.
Bitmovin React Native SDK v1.0 supports React Native New Architecture, helping facilitate future migrations as legacy architecture is retired. The Bitmovin Player API remains consistent with earlier versions, supporting straightforward upgrades for existing users.
According to Stefan Lederer, CEO and Co-Founder of Bitmovin, this release aims to simplify integration into existing video workflows, requiring less code and enabling mobile-friendly services with improved viewing experiences.
