Peter MacAvock, former chair of the DVB Project, has joined the advisory board of the Service List Registry (SLR) to contribute to its work on simplifying television and video access.
SLR is a global online platform designed to facilitate the discovery of audiovisual media and the accessibility of services across various networks and screens.
MacAvock previously served as Head of Distribution for Platforms and Services at the European Broadcasting Union in Geneva. He was Executive Director of the DVB Project from 1994 and chaired the Steering Board until 2024.
At DVB, Peter participated in developing open standards that are used for digital television delivery in Europe and internationally. He also contributed to the industry-led creation of the DVB-I specification, which supports service discovery functions utilised by the Service List Registry.
“Media providers globally need to ensure their programmes are accessible across devices,” said MacAvock . “While broadcast standards have determined how channels are scheduled and received, there has not been a standardised method for announcing and discovering these services online. DVB-I and platforms such as the Service List Registry address this using open standards.”
The SLR Unified Service Platform gives media providers tools to manage channel lineups and on-demand offerings, allowing devices, displays, and applications to discover available content.
Dr William Cooper, founder and Chief Executive of the Service List Registry, said, “Peter has experience in developing open standards and possesses extensive industry knowledge. His appointment to our advisory board adds expertise to our efforts to support service selection across screens.”
Peter MacAvock joins other SLR advisors, including Matthew Huntington, Secretary to the Steering Board of the DVB Project.
SLR collaborates with partners through international pilot projects and is working with manufacturers, media service providers, and regulatory authorities worldwide.
