Multichoice faces losing its right to broadcast in Ghana after the National Communications Authority initiated the process to suspend its broadcast licence.
The NCA has invoked Section 13 of the Electronic Communications Act, notifying the South African-based platform of the potential withdrawal of authorisation for its satellite subscription services.
“This regulatory action is subsequent upon the company’s pricing model which is deemed inimical to the public interest,” BCA said in a statement.
The NCA is concerned over what it sees as a growing disparity between the amount paid for a Multichoice subscription in Ghana, when compared to other territories in the region.
Multichoice now has 30 days to formally respond to the regulator.
