HbbTV Association has announced the release of version 2025-2 of the HbbTV Conformance Test Suite.
The latest edition introduces substantial improvements, particularly in Digital Rights Management (DRM) and the integration of country-specific test packages, enabling manufacturers to more effectively address local regulatory and platform requirements.
Vincent Grivet, Chair of the HbbTV Association, said: “The integration of DRM and country-specific test cases eases compliance obligations for manufacturers targeting local markets, while enhancing support for HbbTV DRM functionality within the Test Suite. The notable rise in approval rates – especially for independent specifications – signals significant progress in HbbTV’s effort to improve the quality, consistency, and reliability of its Test Suite.”
The updated version supports HbbTV’s recently published DRM specification, providing a reliable and standardised framework for secure content delivery. Developed by the HbbTV Testing Group, Test Suite v2025-2 represents a significant update, offering broader coverage, enhanced localisation, and the highest approval rates achieved so far.
The release incorporates 3,416 test case, of which 3,145 relate directly to HbbTV specifications, with the remainder addressing related standards. A total of 2,807 test cases have been officially approved, establishing a new standard in approval benchmarks.
Enhancement in the release include: Three new DRM and platform test packages originally developed for Italy; 30 CTA WAVE audio tests verifying MPEG and Dolby codec playback and a 27% increase in Targeted Advertising (TA) approval rates and a 12% increase in Operator Application (OpApp) approval rates.
The Test Suite serves as a crucial tool for manufacturers, facilitating compliance of TV sets and set-top boxes with current HbbTV specifications. Broadcasters and platform operators also benefit from increased device consistency and reduced implementation costs. The Test Suite is accessible through registered HbbTV test centres and is available to HbbTV members for use within their own facilities.
