Sky Deutschland secures exclusive NBCUniversal films and series

August 4, 2025 11.05 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland has renewed and expanded its long-standing content partnership with NBCUniversal, securing a multi-year deal that strengthens its position as the exclusive ‘pay 1’ partner for films and selected series across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The new agreement grants Sky and its streaming service WOW first-run rights for selected NBCUniversal series, including upcoming originals such as the high-tech spy thriller The Copenhagen Test and the comedy The Paper. It also includes continued early access to NBCUniversal’s biggest movie releases shortly after their theatrical debut, such as Wicked: Part Two and Jurassic World: Rebirth.

In addition to these premieres, Sky customers will retain access to NBCUniversal’s extensive back catalogue of popular titles and franchises, including Fast & Furious, Jurassic World and Minions.

“This expanded agreement marks a new level in our partnership,” said Elke Walthelm, Chief Operating Officer at Sky Deutschland. “We’re not only extending our collaboration, but also investing further in premium programming for our customers, with more exclusive series highlights and blockbuster films that make Sky and WOW a leading entertainment destination in the German-speaking market.”

Michael Bonner, President of NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution, added: “With this deal, viewers across the region will continue to be among the first to enjoy our latest films and series on Sky – along with continued access to beloved NBCUniversal classics.”

The content covered by the agreement will be available both linear and on demand via Sky platforms, including Sky Stream, WOW, Sky X in Austria and Sky Show in Switzerland.

Sky Deutschland and NBCUniversal are both owned by US-based media group Comcast – though that may soon change. RTL Group recently announced plans to acquire Sky Deutschland, subject to regulatory approval. A decision is expected in 2026.
