beIN Sports France obtains court ruling blocking access VPNs by pirate services

July 23, 2025 13.32 Europe/London By Julian Clover

The French Court of First Instance has ordered blocking measures against NordVPN, CyberGhost and ProtonVPN.

The action focusses on the 2025 season of WTA tournaments in France and brought by beIN Sports France, the exclusive rights holder of the tennis competition in France. It underlines that it is not just football that is pirated via the unlicensed IPTV service.

The court has ordered the VPN providers to take all necessary measures to prevent access to these illegal services from France and its overseas territories until the end of the WTA season. The companies will also have to block all new pirate services reported to them by ARCOM during this period.

In a statement, beIN Sports France says the decision recognises that VPN services enable the French public to access IPTV services and websites illegally broadcasting WTA competition matches, and that VPN providers are likely to contribute to stopping these infringements, within the meaning of Article L 333-10 of the French Sports Code.
