Netflix reveals strong Q2 with the promise of more hits this year

July 18, 2025 14.13 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Netflix no longer reveals its subscriber numbers, preferring the markets to judge it on financial numbers.

The California streaming company will have no issue with its second quarter revenues of $11.08 billion that represented an increase of 16% on the year. Revenues and income figures of $3.1 billion were both ahead of industry expectations.

Subscribers have been enjoying hit series Squid Game S3, Sirens, Ginny & Georgia S3,

The Eternaut and Secrets We Keep, and films including Tyler Perry’s STRAW and Exterritorial. Later this year Netflix will debut Wednesday S2, the Stranger Things finale, the highly anticipated Canelo-Crawford live boxing match, Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2, Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.

The redesigned TV homepage is now available to a “broad subset of TV devices” and has been used by 50% of subscribers. The new version, the first significant upgrade in 10 years, is designed to be more intuitive and better representative of the breadth of entertainment on Netflix.

The streamer has now completed the rollout of its own ads techstack into all the markets where advertising is available. “We see good performance metrics across all countries and the early results are in line with our expectations,” reported Co-CEO, President & Director Greg Peters.

He promised improved targeting and measurement and better ads personalisation. Interactivity will come in the second half of the year.

Netflix has also shared its latest Engagement Report, covering the period between January and June 2025. Netflix Originals released before 2023 continue to be viewed. This includes shows like Orange Is the New Black, Ozark and Money Heist all had over 100 million hours viewed in the first half of 2025.

The UK continues to produce many popular series including Adolescence, the #1 most-watched show with 145 million views, with audiences also enjoying other series like Missing You (58m), Black Mirror Season 7 (31m) and Dept. Q Season 1 (25m).

Squid Game, the South Korean hit series, drew 231 million views across all three seasons in the first half of the year. Its final season became our third most-watched program of the half, reaching 72 million views in just four days.
