LFP Media’s general manager Nicolas de Tavernost has given details of the new L1 channel that will broadcast French top-flight football from the start of the new season.
While there are still some details outstanding, we know that the monthly subscription price will be €14.99, well below the €30-40 pricepoint for DAZN last season that many hold responsible for the ultimate collapse of the deal with the UK streamer.
The LFP will broadcast eight matches per day on its platform from the start of the next season, then the entire programme from 2026-2027. In an interview with sports journal L’Equipe de Tavernost, a former M6 executive, made clear that distribution will be on a non-exclusive basis. “We are in a multi-platform distribution mode. We are in negotiations with all the distributors, except for Canal+, which did not wish to continue discussions with us.”
However, while declaring that the door remained open to Canal to include the LFP channel as part of its packages, de Tavernost hinted that he thought the pay platform had muddled its priorities. “They have put a lot of money into the European cups, but there cannot be €490 million for the Champions League on the one hand and only €100 million for the L1. This gap is not possible.”
LFP, which is hoping for one million subscribers in its first year, is also offering a discounted subscription of €9.99/month for those under 26 years old.
