Patrick Drahi’s Altice France has applied for Chapter 15 bankruptcy protection in a New York court.
Despite being the second largest telco in France, behind Orange, the company is struggling with 19.2 billion of debt.
The application was submitted late on Tuesday afternoon, just days after a French commercial court initiated an accelerated safeguard procedure designed to protect financially challenged firms.
Last week, Altice France announced it had entered the proceedings after lenders agreed their support for a restructuring plan of its senior secured capital structure.
