INA’s streaming service madelen joins Freebox

June 10, 2025 22.18 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

The French National Audiovisual Institute (INA) has launched its streaming service madelen on Freeboxes, following a new partnership with telco Free.

The move is part of INA’s drive to bring its extensive audiovisual heritage to a wider audience.

The madelen platform, which offers a mix of cult fiction, classic films, documentaries and legendary TV programmes, is now available directly via the video-on-demand (VOD) menu for Freebox subscribers. The service includes over 11,000 titles, such as Les Rois Maudits, Maigret, Apostrophes, Bewitched, The Avengers, Arsène Lupin, L’Empire des Sens, Hiroshima mon amour, Paris Texas, Strip Tease, and Au théâtre ce soir.

The subscription costs €2.99 per month, with no long-term contract. To mark the launch, Freebox users can enjoy a 7-day free trial of madelen, provided they haven’t held a subscription in the past 12 months.

“This partnership marks a key stage in our hyperdistribution strategy. By teaming up with Free, we’re pursuing our objective of making France’s audiovisual heritage available to as many people as possible,” said Agnès Chauveau, Deputy CEO of INA.

Nicolas Thomas, CEO of Free, added: “With madelen, our subscribers will be able to rediscover the gems of French television’s past. Our partnership with the INA illustrates our unwavering aim of constantly adding original, high-quality content to our Freebox plans.”

This addition strengthens Free’s already rich entertainment offering, which now includes more than 600 channels and over 30 subscription-VOD services.
