Apple’s tvOS could be about to receive its first major redesign in ten years, according to a leading commentator.
The new look and feel is said to be in the works across all of Apple’s platforms; iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says it will draw on inspiration from visionOS, which also will gain some attention.
News of the upgrade will likely be confirmed at the upcoming Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (June 9-13, 2025).
“The main topic at WWDC will be the company’s new software interface. Dubbed “Solarium” – after glass rooms that allow in sunlight – the new look is slicker and more modern. The approach takes many of its cues from visionOS,” wrote Gurman. “One of the major themes this year is consistency and unification across the operating systems.”
“That means tvOS and watchOS will both be redesigned to match their more popular siblings.” He added that while 2013’s iOS7 was seen as the biggest-ever visual change to the iPhone’s software, this latest change will be more widely felt.
One suggestion is that the new software may also require owners of older devices to upgrade their hardware in order to take advantage of the new look. The 10-year old Apple TV is the most likely candidate to miss out.
