One Hungary, the country’s leading TV provider and a member of the 4iG Group, has completed a major upgrade of its OneTV service, offering a next-generation television experience to over 400,000 households – without requiring new hardware.
The company achieved the transition by revitalising legacy Linux-based set-top boxes (STBs) from Sagemcom, some more than a decade old. The project, carried out in collaboration with German software provider 3 Screen Solutions (3SS), underscores a growing trend in the tech industry: delivering innovation without sacrificing sustainability.
“Our priority is to deliver real value to customers while reducing environmental impact,” said Tamás Bányai, CEO of One Hungary. “This upgrade shows that innovation doesn’t have to come at the expense of sustainability.”
Using the 3Ready product platform from 3SS, One Hungary introduced a modern, intuitive user interface offering personalised recommendations, faster navigation, and streamlined content discovery – features often reserved for newer devices. The upgraded service also integrates with services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, RTL+, and HBO Max.
The technical leap was achieved using the Sagemcom DCI362 hybrid DVB-C/OTT STB powered by a Broadcom 72604 SoC and Linux OS. The UI leverages LightningJS to ensure smooth performance on older hardware. The full upgrade, including rebranding, was completed in under nine months.
“This project proves it’s possible to deliver premium digital entertainment on existing infrastructure,” said Kai-Christian Borchers, Managing Director at 3SS. “We congratulate One Hungary on setting a new benchmark in customer care and sustainable innovation.”
The initiative is part of a broader transformation at One Hungary, which was formed through the merger of several major telecom providers, including Vodafone Hungary, DIGI Hungary, and Antenna Hungária. Officially launched in January 2025, the unified company is now the country’s second-largest full-service telecom provider, serving residential, business, and enterprise clients.
In 2023, parent company 4iG appointed Nagravision and 3SS to lead the migration to a next-gen multi-device TV platform based on Nagra’s OpenTV Video Platform. The system supports live, catch-up, and network DVR content across cable, IPTV, and OTT networks, and is designed to evolve with emerging formats such as gaming and virtual reality.
Olivier Taravel, Senior Executive VP at Sagemcom, said: “We are proud to support One Hungary in delivering a truly world-class entertainment service. This collaboration shows the power of combining existing hardware with cutting-edge software.”
