Pay-TV broadcaster Sky is bringing its IP-based television platform Sky Stream to Austria, with the service becoming available to new customers from 14 May 2025.
The move follows similar rollouts in Germany, the UK, Ireland and Italy, as the company continues to shift away from satellite and cable infrastructure in favour of internet-based TV and video delivery.
The reception device, a small streaming box, allows viewers to access live television, on-demand content, and apps such as Netflix and Paramount+ through a single user interface. The features include voice search, personalised playlists, and a “restart” function that lets users begin live broadcasts from the beginning.
Sky Stream bundles Sky’s premium content with HD free-to-air channels and a range of streaming apps and catch-up libraries. The box connects directly to the household’s internet network, removing the need for a DTH satellite dish or cable TV subscription.
Sky Stream first launched in the UK in October 2022 and made its debut in Germany on 31 July 2024. In the German market, the product has quickly become a success, with Sky Deutschland CEO Barny Mills recently stating that almost 95% of new customers opt for an IP product over traditional reception methods.

Sky Stream will be available online and through retail outlets across Austria. It is positioned as a complement to Sky’s existing OTT service, Sky X.
