
BT has appointed Peter Leukert to the role of Chief Digital Officer, where he will lead BT’s Digital unit and drive the company’s digital transformation.
Leukert is currently Group Chief Information Officer at Deutsche Telekom and will join BT on 1 September this year, He will also be a member of the Executive Committee, reporting to Chief Executive Allison Kirkby.
BT’s Digital unit is at the centre of the company’s modernisation and transformation strategy. The company is currently in the process of digitising its internal and customer-facing systems and processes. It is also where decisions on where AI is deployed are taken.
Kirkby has been Group Chief Information Officer at Deutsche Telecom since 2017 where he has led the transformation of their IT and Digital platforms, products and services, and been a key contributor to the customer experience led transformation that has fuelled DT’s recent growth. He has held previous roles at McKinsey & Co, Commerzbank and the New York Stock Exchange in Germany and the United States.

Until Leukert joins BT in September, Howard Watson will continue to lead the Digital Unit alongside his responsibilities as Chief Networks and Security Officer.
