Sportworld kicks off pay-per-view service with El Clásico

April 24, 2025 13.08 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German streaming platform Sportworld has announced the launch of a pay-per-view (PPV) offering, giving fans the chance to watch top-tier live events without the need for a subscription.

The service will debut this Saturday with a major football clash: the Copa del Rey final between Spanish giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

The highly anticipated El Clásico showdown kicks off at 22:00 CEST at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville. Fans in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH) will be able to watch the match live via the Sportworld app for €2.99, based on a partnership with rights-holder Sportdigital Fußball.

Viewers can register for free on the Sportworld app to access the new PPV zone, where detailed information about the offer and upcoming events is available.

“With this new service, we are offering our viewers a fantastic opportunity to watch and book exactly what they want – simple, flexible, and fan-focused,” said Gerd Weiner, Managing Director of Sportworld. “In the near future, we will be expanding our PPV offer globally across multiple sports with additional partners.”

Dr Robert Niemann, fellow Managing Director, added: “With Sportdigital, we’ve secured the ideal partner to launch our new PPV offer. Through this partnership alone, fans in the DACH region now have access to over 500 live sports events spanning football, motorsport, rugby and ice hockey.”

Sportworld users can purchase “credits” – a flexible prepaid balance – to access individual live sports events. Credit packages start at 300 credits (valued at €3), allowing users to pay only for the events they want, without any ongoing subscription commitment.

Initially, the PPV service will be available on all smart TVs from Samsung and LG, with further devices and platforms to follow.
