
Its 20 years since the first YouTube video, titled Me at the Zoo, was uploaded to the video sharing platform.
The anniversary is being marked today, though YouTube did not officially launch to the public until December 15, 2005, after a period of beta testing.
That first video lasted just 19 seconds, but it has subsequently been joined by another 20 trillion pieces including music, Shorts and podcasts.
More than 300 music videos on YouTube have received more that a billion views; Adele’s Hello achived the milestone in 88 days with Ed Sheeran – Shape of You and Luis Fonsi – Despacito ft. Daddy Yankee tied at 97 days.
YouTube TV subscribers in the United States will soon be able to create their own Multiview with a selection of popular channels available. The list will expand over the next few months, but is unlikely to include sports content.
Personalised radio stations are available for those who care to describe the kind of music they’re in the mood for. Ask Music is available on iOS and Android for all YouTube Premium and YouTube Music users. It’s also possible to hum or sing a song that YouTube can then identify and add to the Playlist. Song Search is available on both the YouTube and YouTube Music apps on Android devices.
A number of birthday easter eggs have been placed for those who “like and subscribe”.
