
Virgin Media says it has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 56% against its 2020 baseline.
To mark Earth Day the communications company has published the performance of its sustainability strategy, known as the Better Connections Plan, which shows it is on track to meet its near-term Science Based Target goal of reducing operational emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) by 90% by 2030.
Scope 1 emissions are direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from sources owned or controlled by a company. Scope 2 emissions are indirect GHG emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling that the company uses.

Virgin has achieved 15% savings in data centre cooling energy across 20 sites,
rolled out more than 350 electric vehicles as part of its goal to transition to a fully electric fleet, and eliminated plastic packaging from own-brand products delivered to customers while working with suppliers to cut plastic packaging at source by 27% against a 2022 baseline.
It has also Introduced a programme to reduce Scope 3 carbon emissions from its supply chain.
