The DVB Project has published a Request for Proposals (RfP) for the development and provision of a set of live, linear DVB-DASH streams, a DVB-I service list referring to the streams, and associated cloud hosting.
According to the Geneva-based group, deliverables listed in the RfP would be used both to support Verification and Validation (V&V) tasks for DVB’s work and as a resource to be used when demonstrating and promoting DVB’s solutions.
Proposals are invited for the supply of a set of live, linear DVB-DASH streams, both cloud-hosted and with sufficient documentation to be hosted on-site. DVB-DASH defines the delivery of live and on-demand TV content over the open internet via HTTP adaptive streaming. It is a subset of MPEG DASH, with a few extensions and a set of requirements for the DASH player in the client.
The provided streams must be accompanied by a DVB-I service list referencing those streams. DVB-I is a specification for an internet-centric way to signal and discover television services, enabling those services to be presented in a unified manner on any connected device – from TV sets to personal consumer devices.
Any source code must be licensed under an open-source licence and ideally any work done as a result of this RfP would build on and leverage existing V&V activities. Opportunities to take advantage of initiatives from other standards developing organizations, such as DASH-IF, SVTA and CTA, should also be highlighted.
The deadline for the submission of responses is Tuesday 8 April 2025.
