German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland is now making its streaming service Sky Stream available to existing Sky Q customers who use the Sky Q IP box.
Sky Stream, which operates with the Sky OS system, replaces the existing Sky Q over IP service. Many customers have already received the free upgrade, with the remainder set to follow soon.
Sky Stream enables access to around 100 free-to-air TV channels, most in HD resolution. It also supports major streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+, broadcasters’ media libraries alongside Sky’s film, series and sports offerings, which can be added as desired.
A key feature of Sky Stream is its advanced content navigation. The Smart Search function allows users to find films and series across multiple providers without switching apps. Voice control further simplifies content discovery. Additional functionalities include Time Shift for pausing live television, restart options for supported programmes, and an integrated programme guide for linear TV. Personalised playlists enable users to curate content for the entire household.
Sky Stream continues to offer live sports, including the Bundesliga, Premier League, DFB-Pokal and Formula 1. The upgrade process is automatic and does not require action from customers. The existing Sky Q IP remote controls remain compatible, and Sky provides guidance on the new interface via the service’s homepage.
Sky Stream launched in Germany on 31 July 2024, offering an identical channel lineup to the Sky package via cable and satellite, including UHD/HDR content if the corresponding option is booked.
The latest move further illustrates Sky’s transition from a cable and satellite TV provider towards a streaming platform.
