Hellas Sat has been granted a licence to run a DTT network in Cyprus that would operate using the DVB-T2 transmission system.
The licence, from the deputy ministry of research’s electronic communications department, runs from December 1, 2025 to November 9, 2040.
Hellas Sat will broadcast four single frequency networks (SFNs), each equipped with two transmission channels. There will be two transmission sites; one serving the Troodos region, while the other will cover Famagusta.
In addition to DVB-T2, Hellas Sat will broadcast both high definition and ultra high defintition.
Hellas Sat CEO Christodoulos Protopapas said his team was currently evaluating the submitted bids for the supply of new digital multiplexing and television broadcasting equipment with orders due to be placed later this month.
“Both I personally and the entire Hellas Sat technical team in Cyprus are excited and particularly happy that we will be providing Cypriot households with the opportunity to watch high definition (HD TV) and ultra-high definition (4K TV) television programmes, thus upgrading the television scene in Cyprus,” he said.
Protopapas added that the company was delighted to repeat the same work successfully accomplished 35 years ago with the establishment of the television station O LOGOS, the first private television station in Cyprus.
