The DVB Project has welcomed three new members to the organisation; Deutsche TV-Plattform, RTÉ and Service List Registry Ltd.
Deutsche TV-Plattform – or German TV Platform – is itself an association with over 50 members of its own, including private and public broadcasters, streaming providers, equipment manufacturers, internet companies, infrastructure operators, service and technology providers, research institutes and universities, federal and state authorities and other companies, associations and institutions involved in digital media. It supports the introduction of digital technologies based on open standards.
“In the ever-more dynamic market for consumer electronics and display technology, adapting to the needs of local broadcasters while competing on a global scale brings major challenges and underlines the necessity of alliances and standardisation processes such as those the DVB Project delivers,” said Carine Chardon, Managing Director of the Deutsche TV-Plattform.
RTÉ is the national public service media organization in Ireland, producing and distributing content on television, radio and online. Operated by RTÉ, Saorview is Ireland’s free-to-air DTT platform, featuring a mix of channels from RTÉ, Virgin Media Television, TG4 and Sky.
“To remain competitive in today’s rapidly changing media landscape, alignment with international standards is important for RTÉ and for Saorview. We believe we can maximize our resources by leveraging solutions like DVB-I and we hope that by contributing to DVB’s work, we can ensure everybody benefits in the longer term,” said Jim Higgins, Business Development Manager at Saorview.
As reported in Broadband TV News, Service List Registry Limited, based in London, has become a member of the DVB Project to help promote the adoption and deployment of the DVB-I standard internationally. SLR is developing a global online platform for audiovisual media service discovery.
“We established the Service List Registry as an independent organization to provide a globally scalable implementation of the DVB-I specification. We look forward to our continuing work with colleagues in the DVB Project as we build out our platform,” said Dr William Cooper, CEO of Service List Registry.
