Euronews is back in profitability for the first time in a decade.
Chairman Pedro Vargas David said the positive EBITDA in 2024 marked “an amazing turning point” for the 32-year-old news channel.
It has been a painful period for Euronews with the sale of its headquarters in Lyon, a move to a new central newsroom in Brussels and almost 200 redundancies.
Vargas David announced the launch of a new Polish language service on television and digital channels, with two further Euronews franchise channels opening later this year in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, followed by two others later in 2025.
Euronews’ CEO and Editorial Director Claus Strunz, the former Axel Springer group journalist brought into replace the sacked Guillaume Dubois, said Europeans need clear, fact-based and non-biased reporting to navigate a rapidly changing landscape. “At Euronews, our multilingual, multinational newsroom unites diverse perspectives under one roof, delivering unparalleled coverage. Euronews says that in 2024 it reached an unprecedented 31.5 million monthly active users and 1.06 billion page views across its digital platforms in 2024, marking an all-time high in audience reach.
