The TV set market saw a notable increase in sales in 2024 in Germany, with a 2.6% rise compared to the previous year, reaching nearly 4.6 million units sold.
According to the latest CE-Branchenkompass 2024 report released by industry associations ZVEI and Deutsche TV-Plattform in cooperation with market research company GfK, the market was significantly boosted in the second quarter by the UEFA European Football Championship and in the fourth quarter by replacement purchases due to the SD switch-off by public broadcaster ARD in early January 2025.
OLED TVs experienced substantial growth, with sales rising by 6.4% to 735,000 units. Larger screen sizes continued to gain popularity, with TVs between 51 and 65 inches seeing an 8.1% increase in sales (1.9 million units).
Meanwhile, sales of extra-large TVs over 65 inches surged by an impressive 33.6%, reaching 380,000 units. Ultra-high-definition (UHD) TVs also performed well, with a 5.2% increase in sales, totalling 3.6 million units. Additionally, more flat-screen TVs are now equipped with integrated surround sound, with two million such units sold in 2024 – a 10.3% rise.
Despite the growth in the TV sector, the overall consumer electronics market (covering video and audio equipment) experienced a slight decline in 2024. Total revenue reached €6.2 billion, reflecting a 1.5% decrease from 2023. While the video market saw a modest revenue increase of 1.7%, the audio market declined by 5% year-over-year.
