Subscriber numbers at CityFibre have passed 500,000 after the UK fibre broadband challenger put on 181,000 new subscribers over the last month.
The company is predicting a further rise when Sky joins its platform later this year. It said the strategic partnership with Sky would enable it to double its addressable market.
Greg Mesch, Chief Executive Officer at CityFibre, said: “2024 was a definitive year for CityFibre. We achieved our first full year of profitability, signed a new strategic partnership with Sky, which doubled our retail sales capacity, and solidified our position as the UK’s leading independent wholesale network.” Mesch added it would continue to participate in the government’s Project Gigabit and make the most of a “rapidly emerging” altnet consolidation opportunity.
Lit Fibre, acquired in May 2024, has added 280,000 premises to CityFibre’s footprint. CityFibre says it will continue to participate in the consolidation of the sector into a sustainable third, national network where it sits behind Virgin Media O2 and Openreach.
900,000 Ready for Service (RFS) premises were added in 2024, including through CityFibre’s own organic build programme, Project Gigabit rollouts and acquired footprint. This brought our total RFS premises to 4.1 million, more than halfway towards CityFibre’s rollout ambition of at least 8 million.
In its most mature cohorts such as those in Milton Keynes and Stirling, CityFibre is now seeing penetration exceed 40%.
