Amazon says it will continue to offer its Prime Video service in Germany, despite a Dusseldorf court ruling it could no longer continue to offer its streaming service their present form.
The regional court for the state of North Rhine Westphalia ruled the parcels to entertainment company could not offer Prime Video using its current technical form or risk fines of €250,000.
“Prime Video will comply with this local judgement and is currently considering next steps. However, there is absolutely no risk at all for customers losing access to Prime Video,” said Amazon in a statement reported by Reuters.
In its own statement, Nokia welcomed the decision: “Litigation is always a last resort for Nokia.? Our goal is for Amazon’s consumers to benefit from our substantial investment in multimedia R&D. But the innovation ecosystem breaks down if patent-holders are not fairly compensated for the use of their technologies, as it becomes much harder for innovators to fund the development of next generation technologies.”
Nokia has already won three patent rulings against Amazon including a permanent injunction ordered last year by the Regional Court in Munich.
