wedotv partners with ZDF Studios to launch new channels

January 29, 2025 10.30 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

AVOD and FAST Channel provider wedotv is teaming up with ZDF Studios, the commercial subsidiary of German public broadcaster ZDF, to launch two new channels across all platforms.

wedotv get.factual is customised for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region while Time2Rlx will be available to platform operators worldwide. The channels are scheduled to launch at the end of March 2025, according to a joint announcement by Philipp Rotermund, CEO and Co-Founder of wedotv, and Linette Zaulich, Director Unscripted at ZDF Studios.

“It is an honour to launch channels with ZDF Studios’ top-quality content,” said Rotermund. “MENA is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world for streaming services so we are excited to launch wedotv get.factual and are already in discussions with the leading TV platforms serving the region. Additionally, Time2Rlx has the kind of global appeal that defies cultural and language barriers. It’s a unique proposition that I think will resonate with viewers around the world.”

wedotv get.factual will offer nonfiction content from ZDF Studios’ library of documentary and lifestyle programming, including multi-part series such as Ancient Apocalypse, Profession: Queen!, The Abyss: Rise and Fall of the Nazis, Cold Case, Beyond the Myth, Women Who Made History, The Ascent of Civilisation, Secrets of the Bible, Missing Link and Great Inventions. All programmes will be localised for each specific market within the MENA region.

Time2Rlx is a channel designed to provide a calming effect for viewers by showing environmental scenes, for example landscapes, ocean waves, tropical beaches and snowy vistas, shot in 4K and up to 8K, accompanied by ambient, environmental sounds or a gentle musical soundtrack.

“By creating new channels, we are realising a goal we’ve had for some time. Identifying the right brand and content for the different markets is a challenge and we were able to find a great partner to supplement our vision for these channels. Our partner wedotv has exactly the level of experience, expertise, and service we needed. We are very excited about the initial reaction to the channels and look forward to a very productive year,” said Zaulich.
