Sofia Digital, a Finnish technology company specialising in digital broadcasting and OTT solutions, has become a member of the DVB Project, an international industry-led consortium focused on developing global standards for digital video broadcasting.
With over 20 years of experience, Sofia Digital provides solutions for PSI/SI services, metadata aggregation and HbbTV servers. The company is also known for its work in facilitating interoperability for broadcasters and operators, helping them navigate the rapidly changing media industry.
With its DVB Project membership, Sofia Digital aims to engage in the development of new standards, including DVB-I, a global initiative aimed at integrating traditional broadcasting with internet-based services. DVB-I is designed to deliver broadcast-grade quality through internet delivery, offering a unified viewing experience that bridges the gap between traditional and OTT platforms.
Sofia Digital has already contributed to DVB-I development through its DVB-I Reference Application and the DVB CSR (Central Service Registry). The company also offers a range of DVB-I services, including the Sofia Backstage DVB-I Service Manager, which assists broadcasters and operators in managing DVB-I services.
“Joining the DVB Project is a natural progression to our commitment to help shape the future of digital broadcasting. As pioneers in DVB-I technology since the DVB-I Reference Client, we are happy to collaborate with the industry to enable standards that enhance user experiences and drive innovation globally,” said Mika Kanerva, Co-founder and COO of Sofia Digital.
