Spain’s communications regulator has sanctioned DAZN after it failed to signpost a promotional item during a football match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The incident, which took place on October 28, 2023, resulted in a fine of €182,531.
CNMC says the General Law on Audiovisual Communication establishes that telepromotions are likely to cause confusion to the viewer about their advertising character and, consequently, must always be identified as “advertising”.
DAZN has acknowledged its responsibility and has paid the penalty in advance with a cumulative reduction of 40%.
