Ultrafast Full Fibre now available to 17 million UK premises

January 7, 2025 13.49 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Half of all UK homes and businesses can now connect to full fibre broadband from Openreach.

A total of 17 million premises are now connected via Openreach’s full-fibre services with plans to serve 30 million by the end of 2030.

78,000 new premises are connected every week, the equivalent of a city the size of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire with 4.2 million premises added over the last 12 months.

We used BT’s online speed checker to look at three sites in Cambridgeshire; and found speeds of 30 Mbps, 70 Mbps and 500 Mbps. In some areas speeds extend to 1 Gbps

“We’re building and connecting people faster than ever before and I’m proud of the progress our engineers have made,” said Clive Selley, CEO, Openreach. “We’re well on our way to delivering our ambition of reaching 25 million homes and business by the end of 2026, and now our sights are set on reaching 30 million premises by the end of 2030.”

Over 300 service providers act as resellers for Openreach including BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone, and Zen.
