At 2.94 million sets sold in the first three quarters of 2024, TV sales in Germany remained almost unchanged compared to the same period of the previous year (2.92 million).
After a weak first quarter and a good second quarter, which was boosted by the European Football Championship and the Olympic Games, sales in the third quarter of 2024 were on a par with the same period of 2023.
This is reported by German industry associations ZVEI and Deutsche TV-Plattform in cooperation with market research company GfK in their Consumer Electronics Branchenkompass Q3/2024 market overview. Turnover in the video market remained stable in the first nine months of 2024 at around €2.1 billion with the overall CE market volume amounting to €3.9 billion.
There were also hardly any changes in terms of equipment features: As in the previous year, 85% of TV sets sold were LCD televisions, with OLED technology accounting for the remaining 15%. More than three quarters (78%) of the screens sold were UHD TVs. Large displays also recorded a slight increase. The trend towards larger screen sizes is continuing: 24% of TVs sold were 55-inch sets, while a further 17% had a screen size of 65 inches (165 cm).
It is striking that TV sets are increasingly being used to play online audio formats. The German media authorities’ Audio Trends 2024 report shows that smart TVs are now the second most frequently used device for playing web radio and online audio content after smartphones.
