Netflix, Disney+ and the Amazon Prime Video between them contributed €362 million to French audiovisual and cinema production, according to a report released by Arcom and the CNC.
Since July 2021, the most significant international streaming services have been obliged to contribute to French cinema, in line with domestic TV companies including TF1, France Télévisions and Canal+.
The rules, transposed from a European directive, state that 20% of turnover made in France must go into local production.
In 2022, the first full year of the obligations, the contribution made by Prime Video, Disney+ and Netflix had reached €342 million euros, up from €162 million in 2021.
The share paid by each platform has not been made public due to business confidentiality, but Netflix has previously claimed it has sunk €250 million into local production.
In 2024, two new company’s, Sony’s Crunchyroll and Apple TV+ will be subject to the obligations.
