wedotv expands to Brazil with new FAST Channel on Samsung TV Plus

November 18, 2024 10.08 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

Free streaming sports and entertainment network wedotv is partnering with Samsung TV Plus to create and launch a new FAST channel dedicated to popular Venezuelan telenovela Pele Selvagem (original Spanish name Piel Salvaje).

The new channel – wedotv amor: Pele Selvagem – is currently available to Samsung TV Plus customers in Portuguese language, marking wedotv’s entry in to the Brazilian market.

Pele Selvagem is a new version of the classic telenovela La Fiera, which embraces a new generation while honouring the classic themes of love, betrayal, and ambition. The strong female protagonist – Camila Espino as portrayed by Irene Esser – breaks away from traditional roles, portraying a woman who’s unafraid to fight for her place in a male-dominated world.

Over 120 episodes, viewers follow Camila Espino from her childhood on the mean streets to her search for her birth mother which draws her into a complex family rivalry and power struggle between two powerful cosmetic companies. This story pits heart against ambition and love against revenge, with characters whose secrets and desires explode onto the screen.

At the heart of it all is Camila’s fierce love for Maximiliano Esquivel, a man torn between his loyalty to family and his desire to break free. Their love will defy the odds, but it could cost them everything.

“This is our first single-IP service, we had some clear criteria for doing so,” notes wedotv CEO and Co-Founder Philipp Rotermund. “First, we considered the series’ popularity and brand awareness within the market. Then we wanted to make sure there were a sufficient number of episodes available to encourage extended amounts of viewing time. And finally, we wanted to lock in a platform partner that could make the channel available to a substantial number of consumers. There is no doubt that Pele Selvagem is both a modern-day classic and an addictive, binge-worthy series perfect for today’s streaming video audiences, and Samsung TV Plus was THE platform to launch this new fan-favourite.”

Aline Jabbour, Service Business Development Director at Samsung Latin America, said: “The soap opera genre holds a special place in the hearts of Brazilians, captivating audiences with intense and emotional storytelling. wedotv amor: Pele Selvagem, now available on Samsung TV Plus Brazil, strengthens our commitment to bringing culturally resonant stories that connect deeply with our audience.”
