Freely makes sweep of HbbTV Awards 2024

November 15, 2024 12.39 Europe/London By Julian Clover

New launch Freely took 4 awards in this year’s HbbTV Awards with honours also going to Mediaset España and ATVI.

The internet delivered TV platform, established by the UK’s public broadcasters, picked up Best Technology Innovation in an HbbTV Application, Best Use of HbbTV for Content Discovery, Best Marketing or Promotion of an HbbTV-Based Service and Judges’ Award: HbbTV Newcomer of the Year.

“With Freely, Everyone TV have both demonstrated the power and effectiveness of the HbbTV OpApp, and how collaboration between broadcasters can bring compelling ‘all streaming’ services to consumers,” said the judges.

Mediaset España won the Best Use of HbbTV for Advertising-Based Solutions Award for its use of Contextual Advertising for Linear Live TV (Spain). The jury described it as a groundbreaking approach that significantly improved the viewer experience and advertiser return on investment.

The Award for the Best Tool or Product for HbbTV Service Development or Deliver was handed to ATVI for its Certification for HbbTV-TA receivers (entire Europe and any other HbbTV markets). “A valuable initiative that addresses a critical industry need by providing a standardised approach to HbbTV compliance, facilitating faster market adoption and ensuring a consistent user experience,” said the jury.

The ceremony took place at Church House in London.
