Tivù deploys EPG to connected TVs via HbbTV

November 14, 2024 11.00 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

Tivù will make its redesigned Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) for free-to-air DTT and DTH satellite television available on connected TV sets via the HbbTV standard by the end of 2024.

This was announced by the company jointly owned by Rai, Mediaset, TIM, Associazione TV Locali and Aeranti Corallo at the occasion of the HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2024 in London.

Tivù la Guida will continue to be accessible on tivùsat set-top-boxes, on the website tivu.tv and on the iOS and Android App stores. With the new HbbTV version targeting connected TVs, a new feature will launch the service when the user types “500” into the remote control. The viewer can then access the entire free-to-air TV offer of national and international channels on both DTT and DTH satellite platform tivùsat.

With launch of this service, the EPG will have advanced features including navigation of the programming for the current day and the following seven days, with an information preview of the programme, complete programme sheet, ‘go to channel’ function, social sharing of the content and further insights via the QR code.

By early 2025, additional features are to be introduced with a new homepage containing highlights of the top programmes of the day linked to the most popular television apps and a selection of the viewers’ favourite genres. A new, faster search mode will also become available.

More details about tivù la guida will be announced in the coming weeks, including a release schedule on different smart TVs and operating systems.

Tivù, co-founder of the Free TV Alliance in 2014, was created in 2008 to promote DTT in Italy and to launch and manage tivùsat, the first Italian free-to-air digital satellite platform covering the entire Italian territory. Tivùsat provides free access to more than 80 TV and 45 radio channels including more than 70 HD and 4K channels.

In 2013, tivù launched tivù la guida, a comprehensive programme guide covering the whole FTA offer of the Italian TV channels and the most important international channels.
