Wiztivi develops HbbTV application for Eutelsat Sat.tv Connect

September 18, 2024 10.07 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

Wiztivi has created the HbbTV application Sat.tv Connect for satellite operator Eutelsat.

French application and UI provider Wiztivi was chosen to design and develop the Sat.tv Connect app after demonstrating its expertise in this area in a previous project where it created Eutelsat’s Fransat Connect HbbTV app.

The new app is compatible with over 3,000 smart TV models, including both older devices and the newest screens, expanding the Sat.tv Connect service’s reach on connected TVs.

The app, which is based on Wiztivi’s DANA SaaS Framework for cross-platform native video app development, appears in a customised design using the Sat.tv Connect brand identity. It enhances user engagement and provides a seamless viewing experience across all devices, according to Wiztivi.

Making use of the latest HbbTV features, the Sat.tv Connect app supports multiple languages including right-to-left languages like Arabic, and is multi-satellite capable. Users can browse “Now, Tonight & Week” views, use an enriched Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) and a range of Full Information Pages (FIPs).

A significant aspect of the project was the creation of a robust back-office system for Eutelsat, offering extensive configuration capabilities for content and marketing campaigns. Eutelsat can now segment users with a high level of granularity based on their devices and subscription status, enabling precise targeting, stresses Wiztivi. For example, a channel package can be promoted exclusively to non-subscribers or 4K content can be advertised only to users with compatible devices. The back-office system also includes tools for creating channel packages or blacklisting incompatible devices.

“We are thrilled to collaborate once again with Eutelsat on the development of the Sat.tv Connect application, a project that showcases Wiztivi’s expertise in HbbTV technology. It also highlights our unique ability to support clients in managing a complete range of devices, from older models to the latest technologies. This capability sets us apart in the market, demonstrating our commitment to delivering versatile and comprehensive solutions for major telecommunications service providers, broadcasters and media companies,” said Jeroen van Vliet, SVP Sales of Wiztivi.
