Waoo to upgrade TV platform with Zattoo

September 10, 2024 21.32 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Danish internet service provider Waoo will enhance its Waoo TV offering in collaboration with Zattoo, thereby deepening its partnership with the TV-as-a-Service provider.

Waoo, a subsidiary of Fibia, operates fibre networks in Denmark with more than 2.4 million connected households and businesses and over 315,000 internet customers. Like many other ISPs in Europe, Waoo operates under intensifying competition and recognises the increasing complexity of technical platforms delivering a state-of-the-art TV offering, according to Zattoo.

The company has begun exploring with Zattoo possibilities to create a more agile TV platform that is able to respond to market trends like ‘cord-cutting’ and can potentially move audiences from big screen ‘couch-viewing’ to multiple devices, improving customer service and experience, and doing all of this with better functionality than competitors.

Waoo selected Zattoo as partner to challenge their existing hardware management and feature development by new elements like an in-field set-top box, à-la-carte channel shopping, Nielsen audience ratings and an extensive VOD store.

“Partnering with Waoo is a significant milestone in expanding our TV-as-a-Service business across Europe and aligns perfectly with our strategy to work with TV operators and Internet service providers that recognise the strategic growth potential in a modern TV offering,” said Jörg Meyer, Chief Commercial Officer at Zattoo. “It felt great from the very beginning and being given the opportunity to enable such a strong player across a wide range of services proves our European strategy and long-established, successful TV-as-a-Service offering.”

Keld Petersen, Head of TV and Content at Waoo, added: “Zattoo has been selected as our partner because they provide a cloud-based solution that offers the flexibility and low latency we need in today’s digital landscape. Their platform aligns with our ambition to deliver a user experience that rivals international services while giving us the necessary insights into user behaviour to continually enhance our UI. Their European base and close organisational fit make them the right partner for us, and we look forward to a long-term collaboration where we can contribute to future features and customer opportunities.”

Zattoo will showcase its offering at IBC 2024 in Amsterdam from 13-16 September.
